The Two Best Games To Play At A Casino

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

The main thing nearly everyone seeks when visiting a casino is winning. Why else would anyone go there anyway? The lure of the jackpot, the cry around the dice tables, all the FREE stuff, the general sites and sounds of a casino are the grand attraction of nearly all casinos.

I love the games. I love the excitement. I love the winnings. I’ve conditioned myself to play seriously, win often, and leave when I have met my goal. One of the most valuable lessons I have found is to have is a method set in stone..one I know will win quite often. I also have in place a sound wagering method. Most of the systems for sale are “money makers” only for the sales person pushing their system on you. “Win millions with my System X Method”. You know the kind. It’s extremely hard to find any method that proves itself time and time over.

The two games I really enjoy playing and do very well at is roulette and baccarat. This may surprise you because I realize that you have heard “you can’t beat roulette or baccarat”. Over a million games at either, the “pros” are correct. But who in their right mind would go through that many games anyway. I have found out that these games or any of the other casino games go through cycles. If you don’t believe that, then my advice is not to play. Sometimes you will have winning periods while other times you will have losing cycles. The most important factor is to play the games, get in cycle with the game you are playing, and as stated above, have a steadfast method in place.

I don’t play reds or blacks in roulette. I don’t play the columns either. I don’t wait for so many spins of the wheel. I get in play quickly, follow my method, place my wagers, and know a each spin where I stand in the cycle. Bet on the up cycles to win! I usually bet straight numbers and hit an average of 1 in every 6 spins. How many numbers you may ask? Six or less numbers. Control the bet and when you hit, you will win. It’s just that simple. If anyone tells you it’s hard or it can’t be done, don’t believe it.

Get your proven system in place. A poor wager system can break you, but a good wager system can make you. Follow the cycles. Then hire Wells Fargo to get you out of the casino!

Best of luck to all!

Texas Holdem Poker Tournament Strategy – Starting Hands

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Welcome to the fifth in my Texas Holdem Poker Strategy Series, focusing on no limit Texas Holdem poker tournament play and associated strategies. In this article, we’ll examine starting hand decisions.

It may seem obvious, but deciding which starting hands to play, and which ones to skip playing, is one of the most important Texas Holdem poker decisions you’ll make. Deciding which starting hands to play begins by accounting for several factors:

* Starting Hand “groups” (Sklansky made some good suggestions in his classic “Theory of Poker” book by David Sklansky)

* Your table position

* Number of players at the table

* Chip position

Sklansky originally proposed some Texas Holdem poker starting hand groups, which turned out to be very useful as general guidelines. Below you’ll find a “modified” (enhanced) version of the Sklansky starting hands table. I adapted the original Sklansky tables, which were “too tight” and rigid for my liking, into a more playable approach that are used in the Poker Sidekick poker odds calculator. Here’s the key to these starting hands:

Groups 1 to 8: These are essentially the same scale as Sklansky originally proposed, although some hands have been shifted around to improve playability and there is no group 9.

Group 30: These are now “questionable” hands, hands that should be played rarely, but can be reasonably played occasionally in order to mix things up and keep your opponents off balance. Loose players will play these a bit more often, tight players will rarely play them, experienced players will open with them only occasionally and randomly.

The table below is the exact set of starting hands that Poker Sidekick uses when it calculates starting poker hands. If you use Poker Sidekick, it will tell you which group each starting hand is in (if you can’t remember them), along with estimating the “relative strength” of each starting hand. You can just print this article and use it as a starting hand reference.

Group 1: AA, KK, AKs

Group 2: QQ, JJ, AK, AQs, AJs, KQs

Group 3: TT, AQ, ATs, KJs, QJs, JTs

Group 4: 99, 88, AJ, AT, KQ, KTs, QTs, J9s, T9s, 98s

Group 5: 77, 66, A9s, A5s-A2s, K9s, KJ, KT, QJ, QT, Q9s, JT, QJ, T8s, 97s, 87s, 76s, 65s

Group 6: 55, 44, 33, 22, K9, J9, 86s

Group 7: T9, 98, 85s

Group 8: Q9, J8, T8, 87, 76, 65

Group 30: A9s-A6s, A8-A2, K8-K2, K8-K2s, J8s, J7s, T7, 96s, 75s, 74s, 64s, 54s, 53s, 43s, 42s, 32s, 32

All other hands not shown (virtually unplayable).

So, those are the enhanced Sklasky Texas Holdem poker starting hand tables.

The later your position at the table (dealer is latest position, small blind is earliest), the more starting hands you should play. If you’re on the dealer button, with a full table, play groups 1 thru 6. If you’re in middle position, reduce play to groups 1 thru 3 (tight) and 4 (loose). In early position, reduce play to groups 1 (tight) or 1 thru 2 (loose). Of course, in the big blind, you get what you get.

As the number of players drops into the 5 to 7 range, I recommend tightening up overall and playing far fewer, premium hands from the better positions (groups 1 – 2). This is a great time to forget about chasing flush and straight draws, which puts you at risk and wastes chips.

As the number of players drops to 4, it’s time to open up and play far more hands (groups 1 – 5), but carefully. At this stage, you’re close to being in the money in a Texas Holdem poker tournament, so be extra careful. I’ll often just protect my blinds, steal occasionally, and try to let the smaller stacks get blinded or knocked out (putting me into the money). If I’m one of the small stacks, well, then I’m forced to pick the best hand I can get and go all-in and hope to double-up.

When the play is down to 3, it’s time to avoid engaging with big stacks and hang on to see if we can land 2nd place, heads-up. I tend to tighten up a bit here, playing very similar to when there’s just 3 players (avoiding confrontation unless I’m holding a pair or an Ace or a King, if possible).

Once you’re heads-up, well, that’s a topic for a completely different article, but in general, it’s time to become extraordinarily aggressive, raise a lot, and become “pushy”.

In tournaments, it’s always important to keep track of your chips stack size relative to the blinds and everyone else’s stacks. If you’re short on chips, then play far fewer hands (tigher), and when you do get a good hand, extract as many chips as you can with it. If you’re the big stack, well, you should avoid unnecessary confrontation, but use your big stack position to push everyone around and steal blinds occasionally as well – without risking too many chips in the process (the other players will be trying to use you to double-up, so be careful).

Well, that’s a quick overview of an improved set of starting hands and some general rules for adjusting starting hand play based upon game conditions throughout the tournament.

Until next time, best of luck to you at the Texas Holdem poker tables!

Sports Betting – Reality vs Expectations

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Despite the efforts of the US government to curtail gambling on the internet, millions of dollars are still being wagered each day on sporting events, poker and online casino’s. Estimates for the amount of money being wagered yearly on sporting events vary greatly but it is a common acceptance by all the estimators that it is in the Billions of dollars. Obviously the internet makes up a big part with its worldwide attraction and availability, but there are also the legal sports books in States like Nevada and some foreign countries that have legalized betting on sporting events. What makes it difficult to get an accurate estimate is the number of “barber shop bookies” throughout the US and around the world. The illegal bookmakers it is estimated, makes up nearly 50% of all sport betting action annually.

What draws the public to the “windows” to place wagers on sporting events….? Of course many are drawn by the thrill of having “something riding” on a game and almost always can watch the outcome on a TV broadcast. Why do the Vegas Sports Books put a TV next to a game on their board? Because they know that more action will come in on a game that is being televised than ones that are not. This alone may answer the question of how many sport bettors actually end the season or the year with a profit? Playing games just because they are on TV is certainly not going to put a sport bettor into profit.

General opinion by bookmakers estimate that less than 10% of all consistent sport bettors will end up with a profit at the end of the year. Most sport bettors do not have the expertise, the resources and the time to intelligently analyze a sporting event that will give them the edge against the bookmaker. Professional handicappers will spend many many hours each day analyzing statistics, reading press releases, studying injury reports, watching weather forecasts, tracking line movements, analyzing trends and comparing team and player matchups.

Besides just the thrill having something riding on a sporting event, is the lure of those preying on the greedy. Many sport services (touts) advertise winning percentages that are nothing more than marketing ploys to reel in the sport bettor in search of making that “big hit”. The reality is that anyone able to consistently predict the outcome of a game (against the spread) more than 60% of the time is in the top 10 to 15 percent of all handicappers. We are not referring to the hobbyist handicapper here, the one who places a wager once in awhile on they’re Alma mater or a once a year wager on the Super Bowl. We are talking about those that place 200 or 300 wagers per year. The serious sport bettor who is out to make a living or at least a decent profit off his efforts will wager on at least 5 to 10 games each week and higher when football season overlaps the basketball season. So, how much can a serious sport make betting sports throughout the year? Answer: how big is your available bankroll to get started?

The expectation of the novice or unsuspecting sport bettor is invariably far above the realm of reality. This is in part, as mentioned above, is caused by the outlandish advertising claims of some sport betting advisors and services. Claims of winning 70% or 80% of all their games, or that you can make 100 times your starting bankroll in one season….etc. Our example of a really good handicapper being able to win 60% of his wagers is very accurate, you can trust me on that one….To prove this point, why is it that the biggest football handicapping contest in the world (The Super Contest), which is at the Las Vegas Hilton, and draws some of the best handicappers from throughout the world, offers a $10,000.00 bonus to anyone who correctly picks 63% or 66% (forgive me but the exact number escapes me at the moment) during the contest. The contest requires each entry to pick 5 NFL games per week for 17 weeks. That’s a total of 85 games, which means if someone could correctly pick 56 winners of those 85 games, they would collect the 10K bonus. So you can see that the average Joe hitting 60% is quite an extraordinary feat.

Now here is the reality of making money by betting sports….Let’s assume you have a starting bankroll of say $1000.00 and you are going to wager on average 5 games per week. If you placed a $100.00 wager on each of your 5 games and you made a total of say 200 wagers over the year, you would have a total outlay of $22,000.00. This is including the 10% commission the books add to the wager. So if you make a $100.00 wager, you must put up $110.00 to win $100.00. This is sometimes called the “juice” or the “vig”. This is how the bookmakers stay in business. They make 10% off the bet off all the losers, which is one reason it is difficult to beat the books. They adjust betting lines so they can keep the action on a game as close to 50-50 as possible….They keep the $10.00 of the losing bets while the winner gets his initial $110.00 wager plus the $100.00 win. So if a book had say 100 wagers at 100 each which would be 10,000 wagered on one game and 50 of the bettors had side A and the other side B, this is the perfect scenario for the book, because they profit no matter who wins the game.

Let’s use our example of your $100.00 wager on 200 games over the course of a season, and let’s say you are a good handicapper and are able win 60% of those games….I must point out here, that you need to win at least 53% of those games to break even, just because of the Vig as mentioned above. Ok, so you wagered a total of $22,000.00 over the season, at 60% you won 120 of those 200 games. You will get back $210.00 for each of the games you won (the $110.00 you put up plus the $100.00 you won) which gives you a total return of $25,200.00 return, or a $3,200.00 profit for the year….That is the reality. Consider someone who is wagering only $10.00 or $20.00 per game and expects to make a big profit and you see that the reality is that you need a big starting bankroll to make a living at betting sports. Even at the $3,200.00 profit, you certainly cannot consider that as making a living….And again we are assuming you are a “good” handicapper picking winners at 60%.

Fortunately, most sport bettors are recreational or hobbyist players and not out to make a living. Just seeing even a small profit at the end of the year can be very gratifying for them and fulfills their desire to add to the excitement of the game. Over the past 16 years of providing sport betting advice to my clients, it is gratifying to me when even a small player is making even a small profit off my service…I have never failed to make a profit for my clients in the 16 years I have been in business….However, the reality is: you may not get rich.

Internet Casinos, Gambling and Addictions

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

One of the common topics of discussion in the Internet casinos environment, is whether the proximity of a computer and a credit card in hand, may or may not enhance a potential addiction to gambling.

One might think that the necessity to physically move to a land casino, could mitigate the impulses of a compulsive player, and thus control their addiction.

But is this serious?. Frankly I find very unlikely that the remoteness of a casino hall can reverse an addiction so unfortunate as to bet in an uncontrolled manner.

If that were the case, to eliminate obesity would suffice to remove all the refrigerators with food at home.

An addiction to any type of conduct goes beyond a mere physical distance such as the 30 centimeters that separate us from our PCs. For all gambling promoters, the access of addicted people to online gaming, is and always will be a matter of great concern.

We have thought many alternatives to mitigate the presence of online addicts, and personally I think that when the online gaming halls cease to be offshore, the main countries can seriously limit the access of addicts through the use of sophisticated technologies.

The online pharmacies for example, know when a person is buying medicines in excess,

and thus, they can limit the number of times it can be bought in a certain period of time.

It is not too different with the online gaming. With a high technological track could be very simple to know when a person is gambling in a rampant manner and automatically block the access of the player in a given game room.

The other reason that online gaming attracts fewer addicts, is simply because we never have much confidence in betting in a “blind trust” in a casino that is located thousands of miles away. So the stakes are generally very conservative. The fear of fraud is always present in the mind of the player.

Contrary to what is generally thought, any serious casino nor its promoters want addicts on their sites. Only healthy people willing to have fun online.

Poker Advice – When to Go All-In

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Going all-in is big part of tournament poker play. It’s the ultimate move. Committing all your chips to the pot. Your opponents will do it, you will do it. Knowing when to do it is the key point. Also knowing if you should call an opponent when they go all-in.

Players push all-in at any time. Even on the first hand you’ll find players doing this. It’s madness to do it so early. The best you can hope for is a quick doubleup. The worst case you get a caller, lose and go out before things have even got warm.

Unless you have the absolute best hand and there’s an early all-in just ignore it and let somebody else knock themselves out. Why bother risking your own participation?

If somebody goes all-in with a bigger stack than you have and you call that move, your entire tournament is on the line. Lose and you’re out. So, a quick “golden rule:” never, ever call an all-in from an opponent with a bigger or similar sized stack as you unless you are sure it’s the right thing to do. For example you have the best hand.

If you have a huge stack and calling the all-in won’t hurt you if you lose while you can knock out that player if you call, pretty much call every time. When should you go all-in yourself? Only when you have to. You’ll have to to it often if you’re the short stack. You’ll also find that you have to do it frequently towards the latter stages of a tournament when it’s the only viable move because the blinds mean anything else isn’t possible.

What Are the Different Poker Hands and What Do They Mean?

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

There are nine different hands in Poker. This is the crux of the game. Once you learn what each hand is, you can pretty much start playing poker. If you don’t know what each hand is, I wouldn’t recommend getting out there and playing just yet. If you play poker online, you are usually told what is the best hand you’re holding. This doesn’t take very long to learn. You always use the best combination of your two starting cards and the five cards in the middle of the table. You want to find the combination that makes the best hand. Here’s how the hands rank, in order from best to worst:

• Royal Flush – The 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace all of the same suit

• Straight flush – Any five cards of the same suit in sequence. For example the 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 of hearts

• Four of a Kind – Four cards of the same rank. For example four eights

• Full House – Three cards of one kind and two cards of another kind. For example three Jacks and 2 Fours

• Flush – Any five cards of the same suit. For example any five clubs or any five diamonds.

• Straight – Any five cards in sequence not of the same suit.

• Three of a Kind – any three cards of the same rank.

• Two Pairs – Two separate pairs. For example two threes and two fives.

• One Pair – Two cards of the same rank.

• High Card – the highest card you’re holding

10 Proven Marketing Tips To Increase Sales

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Use any of these proven techniques for marketing to increase sales. Entrepreneurs, Consultants and Business Developers can find additional information by visiting http://www.sellingadifference.com

Tip #1: Embark on a careful linking strategy

There are many ways for your company to appear as one of the top ten in a search engine database without having to pay money out of your marketing budget. One easy way is to do some simple research. For example, go to www.google.com and enter in some key words that would bring visitors to your own site. Make a note of the companies that appear in the top ten list to research their linking strategy.

Once you have compiled your Top Ten List, use a free service like www.alexa.com to find out their linking strategy. You can find out who these companies are linking to, who is linking to them, how much traffic they are receiving and related-sites information.

Use this information to craft a reciprocal link proposal. To make it easy for these sites to accept your offer, let them know that you have already added their link to your website and why you have done so. Like any good proposal, the benefits of a reciprocal relationship should be laid out clearly and succinctly.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to build your linking program is to submit your site to directories.

Tip #2: Use Pay-Per-Click Options

If your website isn’t generating a lot of traffic at this point, there are great pay-per-click options available like www.overture.com and Google AdWords. This allows you to reach people when they are actively looking for information online on what you offer. Pay-Per-Click options allow you to only pay when people click on your ad. Taking the time to craft a carefully worded and very targeted advertisement is critical to your investment dollars in pay-per-click options. You only want to pay for qualified people clicking on your site. If your service is only located in one geographic area, for instance, you will be wasting your marketing budget by not stating this. You do not want people from Manitoba clicking on your ad if you only deliver your service in Nebraska.

Also, you need to use keyword-rich content in all your copy. A great service to use is www.wordtracker.com. Not only will this service give you ideas on key search terms that you may not have thought of, it will tell you how many companies you would be competing with if you use them.

Tip #3: Write & Submit Articles

Your articles must provide value and should be unique. You can submit articles to print magazines, newspapers, ezines, associations, online resources for relevant industries as well as “article farms” like: www.ideamarketers.com, www.ezinearticles.com, www.selfgrowth.com, www.goarticles.com, www.buildyourownbusiness.biz, www.articlefeeder.com.

Ensuring your articles are written in a keyword-rich context will increase your visibility and ranking with the search engines. Use www.wordtracker.com, https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal or http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ to find commonly-used search terms.

Tip #4: Start Blogging

While blogging is not usually a get-results-quick method, it is a very effective way to build loyal readership and trust over a period of time

* Focus on the niche market that you are serving and deliver what they want to know about. Don’t make the mistake of trying to cover multiple topics or subjects if the blog is geared to ONE.

* Let your audience know when to expect an update from you. Frequent posting of valuable information is key to having a high readership, so be prepared to spend a few days each week posting and responding to comments.

* Before you begin marketing your blog, have at least 10-20 posts set up. You don’t want to look like you just started yesterday and people will want to get a flavour of your communication style before they link to you.

* Determine your blogging objective. If it is to drive more traffic to your website, make it easy for people to get there. For example, “get some great sales resources here”.

* Measure it’s effectiveness by getting a pre-blogging benchmark of whatever it is you’re using the blog for. If you want to drive more traffic to your business website, know what your stats are before you begin blogging so that you can measure its effectiveness.

* Begin marketing your blog by commenting and linking on other blogs that you respect. When you leave a comment, leave your own blog address. Participate in blogs that your target audience would be interested in. Listing your blog with major indexing sites, directories and search engines will help you get more attention.

* Add links to your site that allow readers to bookmark the post in social bookmarking sites like del.icio.us, digg and blogmarks. You can also include a “tell-a-friend” option with your posts that make it easy for people to forward information.

Tip #5: Get Referrals

Valuable content is the only way to get quality referrals and quality leads. Include “e-mail a friend” or “tell-a-friend” invitations with all outgoing correspondence. You can include messages like this in the signatures of e-mails, at the bottom of articles, in newsletters and in your blog.

Because you are close to your genius solution and know all the ins and outs of its application, do not assume that your target market knows what to do with it. Ask for what you want. Spell it out for everyone. If you want referrals, ask for them. Put the referral-generating process at the forefront of your audience’s mind.

Tip #6: Create an Opt-In List

Like all marketing you do, make it easy for your valued customer to do what you want. Create a system that does not require much time or thinking to participate in. People are busy and if a process becomes too long or cumbersome, they’ll be moving onto something else. You can create opt-in lists for your newsletters, regular article features, reports, advice, etc.

Tip #7: Start an Affiliate Program

Affiliate Programs are similar to getting referrals, the difference being that you actually pay commissions from revenue that is generated as a result of a referral. The great thing about Affiliate Programs is that you only pay when you get a sale. There are people who make great livings simply from affiliate commissions. Aligning yourself with some fantastic promoters is a great way to reach thousands upon thousands of people.

Tip #8: Hold Seminars

When marketing your seminar to a targeted audience, try using a real invitation sent in an envelope through the mail. Curiosity usually gets the better of people when they’ve just received an invitation through the mail and they’ll open it to see what’s inside. Your chances of success increase when you use an odd-sized envelope, quality stock and a non-white color. Anything a little different will be sure to pique interest.

The actual invitation should be in a pleasing, easy-to-read font and the wording should certainly highlight WHY the recipient should attend. Clearly outline the benefits of attending your seminar, how they can register and any relevant details about the event. Make it EASY for people to attend. When you tell people exactly what they’re supposed to do, the chances of them doing it increase exponentially!

Tip #9: Distribute Press Releases

Immediately following or even preceding the release of a new product, service or event, have some carefully worded press releases distributed to some RSS Feeds like www.prweb.com.

You can also distribute these releases to associations, forums and user-groups that your target market belongs to. You want to use other people’s networks to gain the most leverage. Identify those groups that your target market would belong to and get their buy-in to inform their members about your new product/service/event.

Tip #10: Conduct a Survey

There is no better way to understand your target market’s desires better than to ask them! Using a well thought out, carefully worded survey with clear objectives will help you get inside the minds of the people you want to convert into paying customers. This information will enable you to present your services in a way that appeal to the real reasons people buy,

Some companies hire a third-party to design and execute the survey, others take care of it in-house. Either way, it would be a good idea to include an incentive for people to take the survey. Offer a discount, a chance to win a prize in a draw, etc. Like every other aspect of increasing your exposure to your target market, make it easy for them to complete and submit the survey.

Key Strategies to Winning Online

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Winning at poker is not as difficult as you may think. I’m sure that by now you have realized all the books written by the big name professional players are totally useless and way off base. These authors write these books with little or no concern for the advanced player. In order to beat the online poker game you have to have some sound strategies. I’m giving you five internet poker strategies to continually beat the donks and totally annihilate the calling stations.

1. Table image – Create a table image and use it! It’s important you do not forget how your opponents may be viewing your play. If you have been playing tight, to win the blinds. Make sure you play the blinds and loose players at your table. If you play loose, don’t bluff to win the blinds. Go after the tight players with your big hands!

2. Change Up – Get a feel for the table and play the exact opposite!

3. Deep tournament play – Deep tournament strategy is one the BEST internet poker tips you will ever receive. You have to and I mean “HAVE TO”, have to play for first place. Every decision you make should be based on the fact you are playing to WIN! Never hesitate in your approach. The tournament is won when you are playing short handed at the final two tables. All the best players in the world understand this and routinely exploit player that are playing tight. The chips you stack up at this stage of the tournament are the same chips you will use to bully your opponents and win the tournament!

4. Hand selection – Your hand selections is vital. You will not win any tournaments online playing tight poker. You need to mix up your hand selection and play your position. 50 years ago the golden rule as and still is: Good hands in early position and loosen up as you go around the table. It’s very wise to play the better hands in early position, but your image and type of table will dictate what you can play.

5. Raise – Raise, RAISE, AND RAISE! He who takes direct control of the hand pre-flop wins 80% of the time. Always be in CONTROL! Remember never re-raise a player who had not played a hand in 40 minutes. Focus on the loose players and always raise them!

A Career As A Professional Gambler – Part 2

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

The aim for any professional gambler is to win in the long term. The majority of gamblers however take the short term route, high in impatience and indiscipline, these type of gamblers are the bookies and casino’s friend.

The most important rule as a pro is to be patient and disciplined and not to gamble on any event just because it’s available.

When I first entered the betting scene I started to devise my own systems ranging from Sports to Casino games to Betfair games. I seldom gambled but when I did, it was only after I “paper traded” or researched approximately 1000-2000 results. Even at this point some of my systems failed because of course you cannot guarantee future results. A few did prevail and I’ve earned a decent income from them, not enough to be adorned in gold from head to foot or to own a 44 bedroom mansion overlooking the French Riviera, but enough to say goodbye to that monotonous Monday to Friday working week.

That was my goal when I first began and it should be yours too. Visions of grandeur, the urge for sudden wealth and the greed factor can be your undoing in the betting game – at a very high price!

A classic example of punters seeking riches is gambling on The National Lottery usually with money they can’t afford to lose.

Only the other week I was in the queue in the Newsagents and a scruffy looking woman in front of me was complaining to the assistant about her electricity being cut off. The next minute she purchased £25 worth of lottery tickets and scratchcards. I wonder if she’s still got gas?

Some say the lottery is a tax and I have to agree. Unfortunately so many are blinded by the vast amounts of cash to be won and not the actual odds.

To get the 6 balls correct the odds would be 1 in 13,983,816, that’s just under 14 million.

The nearest I’ve ever come, is getting four balls correct and that was way back in the mid 90′s when I participated on the lottery a lot more than I do now. The odds for the appearance of four balls is 1 in 1,032. Incidentally I was one number away from one of the two final balls and two numbers away from the other. I won just over £100 which is meagre compared to the odds. Lastly the odds to win a measly tenner is 1 in 57 and the odds to win anything is 1 in 54, which proves the lottery doesn’t offer value which as a pro makes you look at other betting opportunities.

I’m not saying don’t do the lottery. By all means join a syndicate and bet with what you can afford or if you’ve got a few quid hanging about in your jeans, bet with that by yourself.

Or instead, use the few quid on a nice cold pint and watch the guy on the fruit machine whittle away his hard earned cash like many others do. Yes, he will win the jackpot at some point and you’ll no doubt hear people muttering words under their breath usually beginning with ‘F’ and ‘B’ when he does.

But why the envy? This guy isn’t going to make a long term profit. He’s just another member of the losing fraternity. Those who bet on these machines do not make a note of their bets so they are oblivious to how much they have gambled, something a pro meticulously does. Like the lottery, fruit machines do not offer value and should be classed as a ‘fun’ bet if used, but have to be omitted from your professional itinerary!
