The Game Badugi

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Badugi is a card game it is a poker variation that is thought to have originated from Asia, the game has some slightly different rules to the more common poker games. As with all poker games the object is to win the pot by holding the best hand of cards, or by out bluffing your opponents.

Badugi hands consist of four cards and the lowest hand wins. When playing Badugi the best hand a player can have is four different cards with no pairs and cards that are not matching in value or suit. The best hand a player could have would be an ace, two, three and four all of different suits. If no player has a Badugi hand then the player holding a three card hand would win.

Once two players have placed the small and big blinds the game starts with each player receiving four cards face down, after the players have looked at their cards there is around of betting. The players are then allowed to draw some more cards from the deck if they want, up to four to replace their own cards. There is then a second round of betting before the second draw. This is followed by another betting round and another draw. Finally there is a last betting round before the showdown.

It may seem a bit confusing at first but after playing a few hands of the game most players will be able to pick it up. Although the game is fun not many poker sites seem to offer the Badugi poker variation anymore, but thankfully there are still a few sites still offering the game to play.

NFL Handicapping Tips

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

How many of us football fans start looking at the odds on a Thursday or Friday to place their wagers? Most of us look forward to Sunday as the day to watch the games and see how we are doing with our picks. We usually end up disappointed and start again the next week on Thursday or Friday.

What about starting on Tuesday? The most success I have had has been because I started on Tuesday and finished my picks by Thursday or Friday!

Injuries and the associated lists that come out are not a huge factor in the outcome of these games as some may lead you to believe. Unless a major player is down and I mean major like a Quarterback, Linebacker or Running back or unless there is just a complete rash of injuries on one team it really does not have that much of an effect. You already know this information on Tuesday, most of the time looking at the IL is just muddying up the windows. Avoid using the lists to determine the outcome, unless it’s an impact player.

The four things I look for when making my picks are as follows:

Coaching is one of the most important factors I look at. We all know the NFL is two games, first half and second half. Most of the good coaches can be defined by how they motivate and adjust to the games in the second half. This comparison is probable the easiest to make and you can usually define who has the edge.

Defenses can also easily be compared, you can always compare pass and run defenses against each other and see how a defenses fits to the opposition’s offence, but you can always tell who has the edge defensively.

Quarterbacks again a comparison, who can march the ball the length of the field, controlled offence and who throws the least amount of interceptions are things that will influence my decisions. A QB efficiency rating may be fun to look at and argue over but means little on Sunday, unless, it’s Brady, Peyton or Romo stacking there numbers.

Last 3 Games have to be looked at in a lot of different ways. Which teams have covered the spread over the last three and are capable of covering again. Look at points scored both for and against in the last three games. Do not get caught up in seasonal stats, these are always misleading, and some very weak teams start strong and fade while some strong teams start slow and build.

Quick Notes:

Look for hot and cold players and what influence that may have on a game, musch like the IL but never let it be the determining factor, it’s just to iffy.

The majority of weight I put on selecting my picks is Coaching, Quarterbacks and Defense, two of three will usually determine the winner, if you do your homework the spread looks a lot easier to predict. Good Luck!

NBA Versus NFL For Bankroll Safety In The Betting Sports Game

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

How did your last weekend playing the betting sports game go? I have been doing great in the NBA and have posted a big gains to my bankroll and am ahead in the betting sports game and owe a lot of that to my winning sports betting system. I am up a small amount for the season in the NFL and that is why I bet far fewer games there versus the NBA, where the majority of my action is.

I always find that the NBA is a lot safer to bet on and easier to find consistent winners with The SportsBettingChamp System and always recommend it to anyone that asks. One a year to year basis, if you follow the NBA, you can predict a lot of the final positions of teams just based on last years record and the player movements that each team has. The final positions are a lot more static then they are in the NFL and therefore with a good sports betting system you can easily win most if not all of your bets. Whenever the system sees steady, consistent statistical trends, it knows that the odds of that happening again are likely and based on that and some other calculations, it may recommend it to bet on.

When you look at the NFL for comparison, you will see that there are fewer static teams then the NBA. The standings move around far more on a year to year basis. This will give the sports betting system far less consistent statistical data and in turn, the system will recommend fewer of these games. That is why I bet fewer NFL games by a large margin. The NFL is definitely a sport that is harder to win at consistently then the NBA and has a higher risk ratio when it comes to impacting your bankroll. When you look at the Vegas sports odds line you will also notice that trend. The guys in Vegas know their stuff too and it is reflected in the specific sports betting handicap.

Statistically predicting the NBA is also easier to do on a game to game basis as you do not have as many game changing factors that go you need to worry about. In the NBA each team has five starting players on the court at once that play both offense and defense and a relatively small bench of players that play portions of games. In the NFL there are a lot more positions to consider that can impact the game significantly both on offense and defense and the rosters involved are large. All NBA games are played indoors and the courts are nearly identical. In the NFL games are played in stadiums, some indoor, some outdoor. That is a variable, as is the weather at the outdoor fields. Weather is never a factor in the NBA unless you are a fan trying to make it to the game in a snow storm.

Again, this plays into the hands of the Vegas sports odds line makers and that is why there are far fewer large gain opportunities in the NBA then there are in the NFL. That is due to games being easier to predict based on statistical analysis of both sports. It is a constant battle between the odds makers and the sports bettors looking for opportunities in the betting sports game. But don’t let the lack of large gains make you think you shouldn’t be placing bets in the NBA. It is actually an advantage for the smart sports bettor and a key to winning the betting sports game. You need the safe bets, the easy wins that still increase you bankroll, but don’t give you a high risk factor. Those are the games that will keep you on the winning track or get you there if you aren’t there now.

The popular Sports Betting Champ system provides sports picks based on an incredibly successful system developed by John Morrison. The system seeks out very specific betting opportunities with the potential to increase your bankroll value very quickly, but like any successful sports betting system, it needs to be used properly in order to work.

People purchase sports betting systems for many different reasons, but for most it’s because they lack either the time or skills to make their own winning picks. Some systems are fairly complex and still require a fair amount of sports insight and sophistication to be used successfully. Others, like the Sports Betting Champ system, take care of the picking for you rather than giving you a bunch of rules that you’re expected to follow to pick your own bets. It will give you the lower risk bets that will win 97% of the time and allow you to build your bankroll. With those winnings, you can place some higher risk bets to try to make some large gains and also play more sports.

That is why I still bet NFL games this weekend. There are still good opportunities there, but they have a higher risk as explained above. I know I can still safely bet some of those games without putting my overall bankroll at risk. This is because I have a strong foundation of bets that are going to win in the NBA. So, if I win the weekend’s NFL bets I am up A LOT. If I don’t win them, I break even because of the betting systems bets. I said earlier I was up a small amount this year in the NFL, but have put consistent cash into the bankroll from my NBA bets. These are picked with The Sports Betting Champ system.

Most people get so attached to their system that they are unwilling to change it, even if it loses over and over again. But if you are losing you need to change your system now and take advantage of the rest of the 2007 NBA season. I can see some great opportunities coming soon, so don’t wait. Look into The SportsBettingChamp System now and learn how safe betting is the right method to bankroll building.

The betting system does the analysis for you so you save time too! It would normally take hours and hours of number crunching everyday to try to come up with the quality of bets this system for the NBA alone. Save that time and make money off of the safe bets from the system. Then turn that time into money by using it to study the higher risk bets in the NFL and elsewhere. People who follow those steps win at the betting sports game.

To make the most of your bankroll and turn it into something to brag about you need a betting system you can count on. The SportsBettingChamp System is the system that will do that. Find out more now. http://www.squidoo.com/winningbettingsystems/

What’s the Odds of Tiger Woods Leading the US to Win the Ryder Cup in Ireland?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

The Ryder cup is in Ireland this year between Friday 22nd and Sunday 24th September 2006. The event is held in the beautiful county of Kildare at the prestigious Kildare Golf and Country Club. The Ryder Cup has been competed for since 1927 when it was held in the USA. The tournament began as a tournament between Britain and the US, and became the US against Britain and Ireland in 1953. In 1979 it became a major contest between Europe and the US, and is now one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the golfing calendar.

Although this competition has included Ireland for more than half a century this is the first time the event has been held in Ireland. The Irish nation has paid much respect to the event: the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) has re-scheduled the all-Ireland football final (the biggest Irish sports event) to avoid a clash of dates.

The Ryder Cup is undoubtedly giant stage; but that is where the likes of Tiger Woods thrive. With Tiger’s father dying this year Tiger is determined to make this year the year of the Tiger, to commemorate his father. Tiger has already this year won the British Open and PGA Championship to prove that he is the king of golf. Now Tiger will be aiming, along with his strong team to get their hands on the famous Ryder Cup, which was won by Europe the last time the Ryder Cup was played for, in 2004.

So, what are the chances of Tiger Woods and the US team winning the Ryder Cup? In my opinion Tiger Woods could win any golf tournament by himself, but in this case it isn’t just Tiger – he also has to rely on his team of mortals. The fact is that although the US team have the God of golf on their side, their team of mortals isn’t quite as good as the European team of mortals. Saying that, I would actually call this one an even contest, and so one to watch. If we look online for the official odds we see that Unibet gives the European team the edge and has given Team USA a 6/5 chance of winning.

Whether you’re looking forward to seeing Tiger Woods play, or you think you know enough to be able to bet on your prediction of the outcome, there’s one thing for sure – we are guaranteed a great tournament of golf.

Become a Good Poker Player – Short Stacks

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Your chip stack is dwindling – you just can’t catch any cards or you’ve been mauled. The blinds are rising and eating your stack even further. You’re dropping behind. You can’t keep folding or if you do the blinds will take you out. What do you do?

Point number one is that being “short stacked” is going to happen to you a lot. You play poker, you do get short stacked. Period. And old cliché but a very valid one “you can’t win ‘em all.”

But – with poker, the saying goes that you always have a chance as long as you have “a chip and a chair.” One famous story to reinforce that goes back to the World Series of Poker in 1982. Jack Straus went all-in and lost the pot. He thought he was on his way home. But a dealer spotted a $500 chip under Straus’ napkin. Remarkably, Straus came back to win the title from just that $500 chip.

So – never give up. You’ve always got a chance of making the money as long as you’re in the game. But when you find yourself becoming short stacked and your chances getting slimmer, the best form of defense is attack! You must make a move – and do so while you still have enough chips to make a difference. It’s no good waiting until you have a couple of hundred chips and everyone else has a couple of thousand. They can easily call you with anything and you will find yourself with multiple callers and little chance. The big stacks will take you out.

Online Casino Bonuses – What You Need To Know

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

If you’re gambling online, you’ll be familiar with online casino bonuses, so I don’t need to explain the basics.

In this article, I want to discuss an aspect of casino bonuses that players sometimes miss – the true cost ie how much the bonus is going to cost you. Nothing, you might say, it’s free money. You’re right, it is free, but you have to pay to get it!

Regardless of the type of bonus – 1 hour free play, 100% match, 200% match, sign-up bonus – at some point it comes down to trying to release a sum of money from the bonus account into your real money account.

The three important elements here are the wagering requirement, the game contributing percentage and the game’s house edge.

Wagering requirement: this is the number of times the deposit plus bonus amount must be gambled. It varies by casino, but is on average between 15 and 30 times – eg Bodog is 15x and Spin Palace is 30x.

Game contributing percentage: this is the amount that each individual game contributes to the wagering requirement. Generally, slots count 100%, so the wagering stays at the basic level. The difficulty starts with games like Baccarat, Blackjack and Roulette. For those games, each casino has its own opinion, but generally the contributing percentage will be 50% or less (Bodog is the exception here as all games count 100%) Take Blackjack, for example, where the percentage is 10%. What this effectively means is that the wagering requirement is actually 300x (100 / 10 x 30).

House edge: put simply, the house edge is the percentage of total bets the casino expects to win in the long term. So in a game with a house edge of 2%, the casino will expect to make an overall profit of 2%.

Putting these elements together, you can see that the wagering requirement and game percentages aim to take your betting to a level where the house edge starts to apply.

However much you gamble, the basic equation you need to bear in mind is this:

Expected loss = Amount wagered x House edge

(eg if you bet 2000 on a game with a 1.5% house edge, you should expect to lose 30)

With a bonus, the amount wagered is dictated by the wagering requirement and the game percentage, so:

Amount wagered = (Deposit + Bonus) x Wagering requirement x (100 / Game %)

In other words,

Expected loss = ((Deposit + Bonus) x Wagering requirement x (100 / Game %)) x House edge

Taking the Blackjack example above (House edge is 0.5% or 0.005), if you’ve received a 100% match bonus of 50, your expected loss is:

((50+50) x 30 x (100 / 10)) x 0.005

which gives you a figure of 150. In other words, the amount you have to gamble in order to release the 50 bonus should, on average, incur a loss of 150!

This is the true cost of an online casino bonus and a clear indication of why you should think carefully before taking up an online casino’s bonus offer.

Bonus promotions are a way to attract new players to the casino. They’re not designed for serious gamblers. It’s important to remember that you don’t have to take out a bonus in order to play at any online casino. But if you do, make sure you know exactly what’s required of you – before you start to play!

How to Play Texas Holdem

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Texas Holdem is currently “the” game to play in the poker world. The rules are fairly simple and so with relatively little information even the newest of players can win a pot or two.

The game works as follows:

Each player is dealt 2 cards face down. Then there’s a round of betting where you can either fold (cast out) your cards believing that they aren’t good enough to win, calling which means placing the appropriate minimum bet into the pot, or raising if you think your hand has a good chance of winning. Once everyone at the table has bet the dealer will place 3 cards face up in the middle of the table. These cards are called “the flop” and are the first of 5 community cards that all players will be able to use in combination with their original cards to make the best possible hand.

Once the flop is shown, there is another round of betting where some players will fold because the flop has meant their hand is not as strong as they thought it was, and others will raise as they’ll now have a better hand than they were originally dealt with. Again, there’s always the possibility to “check” which at this stage means you don’t need to place any more money into the pot, but as with the first round of betting, this is only possible if no-one else at the table has during this round of betting. If someone has raised, then you will need to either fold your hand or “call” which means matching the amount of money placed by the person who raised – or you could raise again if you’re confident that your hand is best.

When betting is completed, then the 4th card, known as “the turn” is placed face up on the table, followed by another round of betting as in the one following the flop. Finally the 5th card, “the river” is dealt face up by the dealer followed by a final round of betting. Once the bets are complete, whoever is still left in the game turns over their cards and the winning hand gets all the money in the pot.

Winning hands:

One of the most important things to learn in how to play Texas Holdem is which hand out ranks another from a 3 high to a royal flush, so in order from least to best the hands are:

Single Card High – you have no pair, no nothing, but you have the highest card of the players left in the game. It’s not unheard of to win with a King or Ace high.

One Pair – a pair of anything, but highest pair wins the hand – your pair of 8s wins over my pair of 4s.

Two Pair – 2 pairs, that could be pairing up your dealt (hole) cards with 2 of the community cards, or if you already have a pair, you could make 2 pair if a pair is dealt in the community cards.

Three of a Kind – also known as a set or trips, you could have 1 or 2 of them in your hand and the others are in the community cards – remember that if you only have 1, it’s possible someone else also has one in which case the other card in your hand (the kicker) will have to be higher than theirs in order for you to win.

Straight – 5 cards in consecutive numerical order of any suit. If there’s more than one person with a straight, then the person who has the highest straight wins – but if both straights are the same, then the pot is split between the players who have the straights.

Flush – 5 cards of the same suit. Simple as that. If more than one person has a flush in any one hand however, it’s the person with the highest ranking flush card that takes home the pot – my Ace high flush will win over your 9 high flush.

Full House – If you get a pair, plus a set – that’s 2 of one card and 3 of another, that’s a full house. It’s a pretty good hand!

Four of Kind – also known as quads – unless there’s a straight flush possibility, or someone else who has a higher set of 4, you are guaranteed to win with this hand.

Straight Flush – 5 consecutive numbered cards of the same suit.

Royal Flush – this is also a straight flush, but it’s as high as it gets (10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace suited) – get this, and you ought to take home the money!

In simple terms Texas Holdem is a poker game where you make the best hand you can from up to 7 cards available – 2 you are dealt with, plus 5 community cards available for use by all players.

Gambling for Fun

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

With so much being talked about the problems of gambling addiction we have lost sight of the fact that gambling can actually be a fun way to past the time whether it’s online card games like poker or going to the casino to play roulette or indulging in some sport betting on horses or your favourite football or basket ball team.

That’s it, a way to past the time, like going to the movies or the theatre or what ever. It is not a way to make money, if it were, casinos and book makers would go out of business a few days after opening. If you are thinking about gambling to make money and you live in Gt Britain then the safest way to gamble is to buy premium bonds where at least you get your money back when you want it, the only thing you lose is the interest you would have earned if you had put it in a savings account.

The only way to view gambling is to say to yourself I am going spend this amount of money having some fun and when it is gone I am gong to stop and do it. Never chase your losses, lying to yourself that just another few hands and you’ll get it all back. It can happen but the odds are greatly stacked against it. You don’t want to end up like the famous courtesan La Belle Ortero who gambled away her $25 million fortune and died in poverty.

The proliferation of online gambling sites has been tremendous; it has never been so easy to lose your money. Once you had to visit a casino, betting office or go to a track but now you only have to click your mouse to have a game of poker or roulette or whatever. Remember when you bet online nobody can see how much you lose.

That said, some women can find it a positive advantage when playing online card games because they can choose to have a male nickname which, they feel, gives them a slight edge as the male players won’t think about their gender in the playing strategy.

There is nothing like the feeling of when you win a big pot at poker, your number comes up in roulette or your horse romps home with long odds but remember the saying of sporting endeavours which is ten times more important when it comes to gambling, ‘it’s not the winning that’s important, it’s the taking part’.Read more about gambling and game at: http://www.yourpower2be.com/gamblingandgames.html

Play Online Baccarat For A Low House Edge

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

It is no secret that casinos operate with a “House Edge” or advantage against the player. This is a fact of life, whether you are playing at The Luxor in Las Vegas, The Venetian in Macau or online in your pyjamas. Casinos aren´t registered charities. They are businesses, and the way they make their money is to charge a fee or margin for people to carry out transactions in their casino, much like a bank would. In poker, this is called the rake. You´ll pay a certain fee for the dealer to deal you a hand. A casino will keep a percentage of the overall money placed on bets for itself. This money does not go into the pot that pays out the winnings: it goes to the casino to run its business.

That much is general knowledge. What I always find surprising, is not that people play at casinos- it is great entertainment and there are winners as well as losers- it´s that often people tend to play the games that are the most “expensive” to play, i.e. that have the biggest house advantage.

If you are going to play at a casino, in my view, you are better off playing those games that give you the best odds, or at least play a mix of games that are weighted to those games that offer the best odds.

Let´s take a look at online baccarat, for example. The baccarat banker bet carries a house advantage of just 1.1%. This compares to American Roulette, for example, that weighs in at a hefty 5.3% and keno that scrapes off an eyewatering 25%. You´ll get even better odds if you play blackjack. BUT, you´ll need to play to a perfect strategy (i.e. stand at the correct time to give yourself the best chance of beating the banker). Baccarat is a reasonably simple game- there is little room for error, so it is easy to play to a perfect strategy.

This is one of the reasons that Baccarat is so popular, particularly with high stakes players and high roller casino players, as it offers one of the lowest house edges in the casino. Often you will see baccarat rooms in Vegas and Macau cordoned off from the public. There is glamour surrounding this game- that’s because generally baccarat is popular with the big time players and there is generally alot of money flowing around (not to mention the beautiful people).

But play baccarat online, and you´ll sidestep all of the velvet ropes stopping access to the general public. Your best bet is the banker bet as the house edge is a mere 1.17%, while the casino tax for a player bet is slightly more, but still a reasonable 1.35%. Don’t bother with the tie bet. Although the payout is higher (8:1, compared to 2:1) the house edge is a lot steeper at 14%.
